Sokoto — The Sokoto State government is set to establish three libraries in each of the three senatorial zones in the state: Tambuwal, Gwadabawa and Wamakko Local Government Areas.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Library Services, Alhaji Umar Ahmad Rabah told journalists in Sokoto that this was part of government's efforts to encourage and assist the dissemination of information across the state.
He said branches would be established in each of the 23 local government areas, adding that the Library Board would soon embark on an advocacy visit to local government areas to discuss ways of promoting reading culture in the state.
He said government had earmarked N2 million for the virtual library project to enable the state meet up with global trends. According to him, "following a community profiling conducted by the library, some vital institutions were discovered to have been socially excluded from accessing the library services, as such the library is currently working towards establishing partnership with such institutions via book box services."
Rabah said N15 million worth of books have been supplied the dearth of relevant materials and cater for new subject areas. the state had procured package unit air conditioners, worth N2.5 million, to ensureconducive reading atmosphere in a library, as well as the provision
The Special Adviser said the internet facility in the library was being upgraded to cater for all the libraries that would be constructed, adding that the Audio visual section would be equipped with modern facilities to create more access to non conventional media in the library.
