Kano — Kano State Commissioner of Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba, has urged the state Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning to expedite the payment of compensation to those affected by the on-going Kura-Bugau-Danhassan road project.
Garba gave the advice while inspecting the 14.5 kilometer road in Kura local government area being executed at a cost of over N800 million; and observed that the non-payment of compensation constitutes a stumbling block to the execution of the project.
He pointed out that the road was initially designed to by-pass the Gajin Giri and Dauni villages, but due to popular demand for the road to pass through the two villages, the state government acquiesced to their request.
The commissioner called for prompt payment of compensation to the people in view of its economic importance, explaining that the state government awarded the project to open up the area and afford the teeming agrarian communities the opportunity to easily convey their farm produce to the markets.
Also, the project manager of Dantata and Sawoe, Mr. Branco Koncarevic, who assured on the speedy completion of the project in April next year, said that the project had reached a substantial level of completion with the construction of some bridges; and complained that only the issue of compensation is retarding the progress of work.
Earlier inspecting the completed CBN Quarters-Zaria Road, Garba expressed delight over the quality nature of the project and called on the contractor to de-silt the road-side drainages.
The commissioner stated that clearing the drainages of silt and other debris would prevent flooding of the road and its ultimate degradation.
He also called on the contractor handling the Shehu Kazaure road project to complete it before the end of the year and commended the firm for executing a quality job.
