Kickoff (Cape Town)
19 November 2008
Both Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows have denied interest in signing Jabu Mahlangu.
However KickOff.com has established that, despite Moroka Swallows boss Leon Prins denying interest in signing Mahlangu, the player could still report for training at the Dube Birds camp soon.
'Shuffle' recently enjoyed a brilliant stint in Sweden's Third Division with Osters IF, and former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan believes he still has a lot to offer our football, both on and off the field.
Many people expected Mahlangu to attract huge interest when he returned to South Africa, but it looks like the former Amakhosi midfielder is struggling to find a new team where he can keep himself fit before returning back to Europe in March next year.
Khan describes the dribbling wizard as a brand that can help to sell any team in the country.
"Jabu is a brand that can offer the best marketing for any team, both on and off the field. Just look at David Beckham and ask why Real Madrid signed him, and why AC Milan have brought him to Italy?
"That is not only about what Beckham can offer on the field of play, but also for marketing purposes. That's what I believe Jabu can offer to any Premier League side.
"Supporters want to see players that can display quality and exciting football because they are starved of that, and maybe that is why most of them are now failing to attend soccer matches at the stadiums."
But Khan says he is not in a position to reveal the latest developments with regard to Mahlangu finding a local team.
