Bauchi — AS part of its effort to ensure regular power supply, the Yankari Electricity Company owned by the Bauchi State government is to generate 100 mega watts into the national grid.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Abdurraham Ado, after inspecting the site of the company along river Dindima in Bauchi.
He stated that, already thirty independent organizations across the country have been licensed to build their own power station which according to him will be connected to the national grid for distribution across the country after the immediate locations must have been taken care of.
"Two of the power stations in Port-Harcourt and Akwa Ibom have been completed and it will soon be commissioned so the two areas will now have enough power need as the national grid will serve as a complement to what is to be generated which is 250 mega watts and 190 mega watts respectively," he said.
According to him, recently Zamfara State government demonstrated its seriousness to join the power generation business with the signing of contract agreement with a foreign partner for the establishment of a hydro-electricity power station in the state which will boost the power situation in the state as well as feed the excess into the national grid for use by others.
Speaking on the proposed Bauchi power station, he expressed optimisms that it will be a reality considering the things that have been put in place by the state government.
He said Governor Yuguda has already visited NERC office in Abuja where extensive discussions have been held which according to him led to the fact-finding tour of the site by the Commission.
