Nigeria: Mysterious Deaths - Gov Suswan Tasks Benue Monarchs

Makurdi — BOTHERED by the recent spate of untimely and mysterious death of prominent Tiv sons, Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has charged paramount rulers in the state to take a closer look at the causes of deaths of promising young men in their domain who suddenly die in their prime with a view to finding lasting solution to the trend.

The governor, who was lamenting the demise of his late commissioner for rural development and cooperative Dr. Atoato Igirgir who died last week from femur fracture sustained in a novelty football match in Makurdi, warned that the incidents of mysterious deaths in Tivland was becoming alarming.

He spoke at the burial ceremony of the deceased commissioner whose demise he noted will affect the administration's rural transformation drive.

He disclosed that the late technocrat was pivotal to the accomplishment of the development agenda of his administration given his commitment and involvement in the development of the blue print.

Regretting that the state has lost a rare gem, Suswam advised prominent Benue indigenes to emulate the life and times of the late commissioner who rendered selfless service to the people and government of the state.

He charged Chief Ambrose Iortye the paramount ruler of Ushongo where the deceased commissioner hails from to critically look into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the demise of prominent indigenes of the area with a view to arresting the ugly trend.

Dr. Atoato Igirgir a commissioner for rural development and cooperatives and an Associate Professor of History at the Benue State University died mysteriously at a Jos Specialist hospital from minor injury sustained a week ago in a football game despite being of sound health minutes before his demise.

His death has left tongues wagging as to the circumstances surrounding his death even when doctors confirmed that his injury was not life threatening.
