Nigeria: FC Abuja Sends SOS to EFCC Boss

Abuja — Immediately after recording his first victory in the ongoing Nigeria Premier League, Chief coach of FC Abuja, Abdullahi Mekaba sent a passionate Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal to the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri.

Speaking to sports journalists at the Abuja Old Parade Ground Stadium, where FC Abuja subdued visiting Wikki Tourists of Bauchi 2-1, the victorious coach called on the chairman of EFCC to give more financial assistance to the team.

Coach Mekaba said that his team needs to be fortified in some areas and that can be achieved only when money is made available to the team."To get to this level, we worked so hard. And to sustain the tempo, we have to push ourselves more. The challenge now is tougher and we need encouragement, especially from the sponsors particularly now that we need to fortify the team during this transfer window, we need financial support from the authorities because good players cost money," he stated.

He explained that the team needs a clinical finisher and replacement for one of his key players which he lost and is yet to replace. His words "we need a clinical finisher and we lost one player which we have not been able to replace. We lost Nosa Igiebor who was our central midfielder. Now we are forced to play with two defensive midfielders.

The coach maintained that instead of playing with a midfield player who can construct something good for the team, FC Abuja plays with two defensive midfielders which impacts negatively on the attacking force of his team.

Besides fortifying the team with new players, coach Mekaba said the players' morale was gradually sagging due to back log of salaries and allowances not paid them.

"Iam still appealing to our sponsors to come to our aid in terms of players allowances and salaries. I believe that if these boys are supported, we can go places," he assured.

Coach Mekaba further assured the team's teeming supporters that their darling team will have nothing to do with relegation, as he said it was too early in the day for anyone to associate FC Abuja with relegation.
