The recent introduction of free mobile maternal and child care services in Enugu State by the state ministry of health has been formally launched in Nsukka Local Government Area.
In his address of welcome, Chairman, Nsukka Local Government Dan Ugwuja, thanked the state Governor Sullivan Chime for his desire to reduce maternal and infant deaths in the state with the introduction of this free mobile maternal and child care services in all the Local Government Areas of State.
Ugwuja noted that with this programme, good and qualitative healthcare can now be taken to the doorsteps of the rural dwellers, especially pregnant women and children below the age of five. He noted that with the recent acquisition of a grader by the Local Government, all areas which before now are inaccessible will be worked on to ensure that movement of this innovative services is not restricted in any way and all roads will now be motorable.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike in his speech noted that it was a thing of joy that with the introduction of MCH services, the high mortality rates of pregnant mothers and children will drastically be reduced.
Dr. Martins noted with happiness the acquisition of a brand new eighteen seater bus equipped with a refrigerator, chairs, and canopy. Dr. Martins promised that each ward will be visited at least once in a month and urged the people to avail themselves of this opportunity the government has provided to ensure the exercice succeeds in bringing the services to those who by the very nature of where they live, find it difficult to access these services.
Strict supervision he said, will be part of exercise that will be applied to ensure the success of the programme.
