Organiser of the inaugural edition of the Akpabio Youth Soccer Cup, are dangling enticing cash rewards for the three most outstanding teams in the boys and girls categories.
With the opening ceremony of the Under-17 tournament expected to hold December 1 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), have lined up juicy packages for teams that distinguish themselves as they attempt to motivate competing teams to bring out their best performances in what promises to be an engaging over a week-long of youth football fiesta.
Being partly funded by Progenics Incorporated, a leading information technology expert firm based in Lagos, whose chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tony Udoh, has promised to always support the tournament, which is going to be holding annually, henceforth, half a million naira is to scooped home by the top placed sides in both the boys and girls categories.
Disclosing this, Tuesday, Ben Ekpo, who is the Spokesman of YSFON, said the huge paycheck was informed by the need to make the competition more keenly contested and to reward excellence by those who merit such accolades.
"The Cental Working Committee of YSFON led by Tunde Ojulari met and approved the prize monies at stake at this tournament, which we hope would go a long way to spur competing teams to bring out their best performances in Uyo", Ekpo said.
He added that the second and third-placed sides in both categories are expected to go home with cash prizes not below N250 000.
"It is clear that this is a major tournament due to the cash reward at stake for teams. We want to reward sports excellence by giving to those who are deserving of such", Ekpo noted.
