Uganda: New Twist in Rugby Brawl Case

Kampala — THE case against uganda telecom Kobs players and coach took a new twist on Tuesday night, forcing the disciplinary committee to delay its verdict.

Kobs legal advisor Dan Wegulo, who represented accused coach Fred Mudoola and players Steven Ogwete and Victor Wadia, requested he file a written defence.

The three are accused of roughing up referee Collins Mulindwa during the Hima 10s tournament.

"After submissions by the referee and the accused parties, Kobs' lawyer (Wegulo) requested to be given time to file a written defence. The disciplinary committee obliged," a source said yesterday.

"I think he weighed the evidence and felt it was safer to write a defence," the well placed source added. The case was heard on Tuesday night at the Uganda Rugby Union secretariat.

Wegulo is expected to hand in the written defence today and a ruling will be delivered 24 hours after receiving it.

After a decision has been taken, the disciplinary committee is given 48 hours to give their report to Uganda Rugby Union secretary Paul Nyangabyaki.

The disciplinary committee chaired by Paul Aliker has Simon Tendo and Jackie Kigozi. The other official Anne Sizomu did not attend.
