Uganda: Zain Group Chief Wins Three Awards

Kampala — ZAIN Group chief executive officer (CEO), Dr. Saad Al Barrak, has won three awards.

Wambui Oyulu reports that Al Barrak won the Africa Investor International Business Leader, Telecom CEO of the Year and Bespoke magazine's 2008 Visionary awards.

"I am honoured and humbled by this recognition.

"We are proud of our roots and we hope to make Zain one the top 100 worldwide brands," Al Barrak said while receiving the awards.

The Africa Investor award was in recognition of Zain's $12b investment in Africa. Zain operates in 22 countries and has 56 million customers.

He was also recognised for his achievements in the regional telecom scene, thus scooping the CEO Middle East magazine award.

Al Barrack won the Bespoke magazine Visionary Award in recognition of his efforts in making Zain a leader in many areas of mobile communications.

"We are proud of our roots and we hope to make Zain the first genuine telecom company to make the top 100 worldwide brands," he said.
