Kampala — THE Minister of Relief and Disaster Preparedness, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, has said there is need to draw maps with details of disaster-prone areas on the African continent.

He made the remarks, at the opening ceremony of the 42nd meeting of the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development, (RCMRD) Governing Council at Imperial Hotel Kampala.

He called upon the RCMRD to draw the maps to enable governments quickly and effectively prepare for natural disasters.

"Such maps would show us which areas are prone to landslides, flooding and so on, which would help us respond quickly," the minister said. He also urged delegates to ensure the policy is implemented.

He urged the delegates to avail information to implementers who would then put these policies into practice.

The meeting was attended by ministers from Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Comoros, Swaziland, Sudan, Lesotho, Nambia, Tanzania and Zambia .
