Kampala — THE floods that devastated Teso sub-region last year are back. The road connecting Katakwi and Amuria districts in north-eastern Teso has even been cut-off.
The submerged Ajeleik Bridge has left people with no option but to use alternative routes, many of them risky.
Katakwi is the most hit by the floods with over 6,000 households affected, according to the flood status report.
The report was discussed last Thursday at an emergency disaster meeting at the Katakwi district headquarters. Parts of Serere in Soroti district are also experiencing floods.
Schools and homes are water-logged and gardens destroyed, raising fears of an imminent famine.
Statistics show that about 47 people have died in the northern and eastern parts of the country as a result of these floods.
