Kampala — A MAN who raped a married woman in Mukono has been sentenced to nine years in jail at Luzira Prison.
Peter Kazibwe, a resident of Kizika village in Nazigo sub-county, Kayunga district, raped a woman, names witheld, on December 18, 2003.
The prosecution told court that Kazibwe forcefully entered the family house and found the victim and her husband having supper.
"He ordered her husband out of the house before he raped her. She screamed for help, but Kazibwe could not leave her. The husband mobilised residents to intervene and they found Kazibwe still in the act," the prosecutor, Charles Kamuuli, narrated to the court.
Court heard that Kazibwe got away from the scene but was arrested later in a nearby clinic where he had gone to treat injuries he sustained during the scuffle.
Appearing in court presided over by Justice Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza in Mukono on Monday, Kazibwe confessed having committed the offence and asked for leniency.
He said he was a married man with two children.
In the ruling, Justice Mulyagonja said the act exposed both the victim and her husband to embarrassment, trauma and the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.
The same court sentenced two security guards to three years in jail after they pleaded guilty of torturing a suspected thief to death.
Livingstone Kaddu and Peter Emojong of Kari Guards on Sirinya Island in Buwema sub-county, Mukono district, assaulted Sam Majambere, whom they tortured to death before throwing his body into Lake Victoria on June 25, 2003.
The duo had suspected that Majamberee had stolen their fish.
Mulyagonja said the sentence would send a massage to security personnel across the counrty that it is illegal to use excessive force on suspects.
