Luanda — The first chairman of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), José Guimares, defended this Wednesday in Luanda the necessity for better inter-connection between the ministries of youths and sports and education for the reactivation of school sport.
Speaking to ANGOP, in Ingombota District, the source considers the introduction of sports competitions in the education sector to be a fundamental basis for federative sport, similarly to what happens in other countries, for example the United States of America.
"Sport should start from the bottom, from the juvenile categories, that is why it is urgent that both ministries should join efforts to develop various sports disciplines", he stressed, adding that thiswould encourage the provincial associations to organise regularly school and national championships.
Regarding basketball, José Guimarães suggests regular contacts between former players and federative institutions, in the perspective of massive practice and discovery of new players.
According to him, these premises will help to create the bases to guarantee the future of basketball, maintain the level conquered in the African continent and consequently go up in the international ranking.
