Luanda — The Constitutional Court (TC) is conquering its place and playing the role of guarantor and controller of accomplishment and compliance with the Constitution.
This was said to Angop by the TC chief judge, Rui Ferreira, during an interview for an assessment of the work done by the institution since it was established about six months ago.
He recalled that the TC was created at a time the legislative election of September 5 was in preparation, having as its first task to design it to meet the responsibilities thereof.
"We accomplished the task of preparing the legislative election and that was a mission, we think, well fulfilled," he underlined.
According to him, the TC carried out tasked assigned to it within established timing, and present to the National Election Commission (CNE), upon a careful evaluation of the political parties standing for the election.
Currently, Rui Ferreira said, the court is busy completing the processes of constitutional nature and others concerning conflicts within political parties.
The Constitutional Court started its functions in June this year, tasked with securing the constitutionality of the laws, decrees and ratified international treaties and verifying the observation of the Constitution.
It is also tasked with ruling on electoral matters, political parties and parliamentary litigation, presidential and parliamentary candidacies, regularity of electoral acts, formation and dismantling of political parties and conflicts within them and matters related to ceasing of parliamentary mandates.
