Angola: Government Funds 53rd Edition of São Silvestre Race

Luanda — The 53rd edition of the S ã o Silvestre race already has monetary funds granted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and which is in Angolan Athletics Federation (FAA), ANGOP learnt this Wednesday from an official source.

The national sports director, Ricardo Raimundo, who revealed the information without mentioning the amount, guaranteed that the athletics federation will use it to create conditions for the success of the race.

In the 2007 edition, the Ministry of Youth and Sports attributed about 29 million Angolan Kwanzas to the race.

On the preparation, the source stated that he was assured by the chairperson of the federation, Carlos Teixeira that the competition shall happen without hindrances.

The 2007 race was won by the Kenyan Elijah Nyabuti, with the time of 46:35 minutes. The Angolan Jo ã o Ntyamba was in the third position with a time of 47:56. In the ladies category, Grac Momany (Kenya) won in 53:13 minutes, whilst the Angolan Teresa Tchicolili was third with the 56:36.

The route of the race was of 15,850 metres starts at the Mutamba square and finishes at Coqueiros stadium.
