Botswana: Stage Set for JB Sports Quarterfinals

The battle lines are drawn for the quarterfinal of the JB Sports volleyball festival to be held in Otse this weekend.

In the men's competition, Kutlwano take on Itekeng while Diphatsa lock horns with Desert Kings. Defending champions, BDF VI will pit its strength against Teletswana in what should the highlight game of the quarterfinal. The duel presents BDF VI with an opportunity to redeem some of their dented pride.

Recently BDF VI failed to reach a final for the first time in many years after a loss to their army brothers, Diphatsa. In the last quarterfinal in the men's competition, Mafolofolo pit its wits against Sparrows.

In the women competition, Debswana challenge champions, Kutlwano take on Spiking Stars while defending champions Mafolofolo will be up against Teletswana. Kalavango and Magstimela will do battle in the third quarterfinals with Dynamites coming up against Diphatsa.

The semi-finals and finals in both the men and women competitions will follow immediately after the quarters. JB Sports has donated P100,000 to sponsor the event. Each of the winners in both men and women categories will walk away with P5,000.

The organiser of the competition, Kagiso Meswele, said everything is going well and they have squeezed quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals on the same weekend because they do not have enough time.

He said they want to give clubs that are going to take part in the Zone VI championships in Durban, South Africa on December 7 time to prepare. He added that a festival is different from a tournament and it has to take a shorter time.
