Lagos — Rivers State Police Command yesterday confirmed the killing of three of its serving police corporals and a civilian by unknown gunmen in Port Harcourt.

The gunmen attacked the police officers who were on patrol duty along the Sangana Street along the Aba/Port Harcourt express way, on Monday night.

Confirming the killing, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Rivers Police Command, Mrs. Rita Abbey, said the hoodlums opened fire on the officers while on a patrol duty, killing them and a civilian who ran into the attack.

Mrs. Abbey said the gunmen after killing the officers and the civilian carted away their AK47 rifles and other valuables, saying that no arrest had been made on the killing.

She regretted that serving police officers on legitimate duties could be slaughtered by armed groups without any concrete reasons.

She decried the spate of insecurity in the state and regretted that the unfortunate civilian was killed by the hoodlums.

Although, she did not give the particulars of the deceased officers, she said their corpses had been deposited in the mortuary.
