Ado Ekiti — National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has nabbed a commercial driver, Mr. Cyprian Otti, in Ekiti State for allegedly being in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine weighing 20grammes cocaine.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Ben Ikani, at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti Tuesday said the driver confirmed to have been paid N800 in Lagos to deliver the parcel, which was hidden in a Holy Bible, and meant for one Andy Asogwa in Abuja.
The recipient's name and telephone number were written on the back of the envelope, which to the driver's surprise, contained Holy Bible with the centre stocked with 20grammes of cocaine and wrapped with a newspaper.
Ikani said he had to take permission from the headquarters of the agency to allow him proceed to Abuja and effect the arrest of the recipient, who was in their net, saying the agency was still after the sender of the dangerous parcel who is on the run.
On the wide expanse of Indian hemp plantation that was destroyed by NDLEA in the State, Ikani said that his men were able to locate the different marijuana farms at Aramoko area of Ekiti South West Local Government and Odo-Owa in Ijero Local government Area after spending seven days in the bush.
He disclosed that the farmers of the illicit weed had devised another method as they went on mountain tops to plant so that no one would be able to see them.
According to Ikani, it took the NDLEA in conjunction with men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) three hours trek to get to the plantation at Odo-Owa where 14 acres of Indian hemp belonging to one Gbenga(a.k.a Double) was destroyed by fire the NDLEA, revealing that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the farm.
