Yenagoa — The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva and the former Senate President, Pius Ayim Pius yesterday expressed concern over the rising challenges being posed by environmental problems, saying there is the need to seek promulgation of stringent environmental laws.
Both Governor Timipre Sylva and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim made their positions known in Yenagoa on Tuesday, during the launch of a magazine titled :The Environment Outreach" said the climatic changes, industrial and gas pollution, effects of deforestation, and all other forms of environmental degradation has made the environment challenging.
Anyim, who commended the publisher, Mr. Noble Akenge for putting into perspective such issues that affects the environment, noted that the publisher's efforts have been a personal imitative to protect the environment of the country.
While congratulating Akenge for seeking to contribute to the environmental challenges, Anyim said the public presentation of the Magazine in Bayelsa State means that it is dedicated to the state.
Presenting the magazine, Chief Timipre Sylva, who was represented at the event by Mr. Warepamowei Dudafa, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Matters, pledged Government's support for the growth and development of the Magazine, also hoped that the magazine would improve the people's ways of living by changing their poor environmental attitudes.
