20 November 2008

The Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Dr. John Ekott has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to encourage various programmes that will discourage youths from participating in cult activities among other vices in the area. Dr John Ekott stated this while declaring open a one day seminar on Cultist, impact on the Nigerian Youths and the society, organised by the council authorities in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He said his administration was not only proud to be associated with such programmes, but basically would not relent in its obligation to support programmes of moral formation on youths since they constitute a major group of future leaders.

The council chairman who was represented by the supervisor for education, Mr Friday Ekanem, noted that the cult phenomenon that threatened the future of the youths and the nation needed a collective sensitisation of the youths on ways of refraining from such act.

Dr Ekott who commended the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, for having the interest of the youths at heart, towards character moulding equally thanked the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs for the lectures on the disastrous effect of practising cultism.
