Abuja — Despite parading reigning African female player of the year, Cynthia Uwak and famous female attacking midfielder on the continent Perpetual Nkwocha, the Super Falcons of Nigeria failed to live-up to their billing as Africa's best female team by not being able to beat a lowly rated Tunisian side yesterday at the ongoing 6th African Women Championship in Equitorial Guinea.
The Nigerian team, who went to the championship as defending champions having won the competition a record five times, struggled to a goalless draw against the north Africans. The five-time champions, however, came out strong in the second half with few impressive moves but the lacklustre performance of the strikers upfront prevented them from taking their chances. The goalless draw means that Nigeria are occupying second spot on the group table, with just two points behind group leaders, South Africa who are already through to the semi-finals having won their two matches against Tunisia and Ghana respectively.
Super Falcons' last group match will be against the Bayana Bayana Queens of South Africa on Saturday and they must win to avoid an early ouster from the tournament. In the final group match also on Saturday, bottom placed Tunisia will take on Ghana who have one point from two matches.
