Mauritius: How can i help my child learn english? - The British Council's language clinic with "Dr Danny"

20 November 2008

Port Louis — Hello and welcome back to the English Language Clinic. This week's question, and the title of this article, is one that I am asked more than any other. As a growing number of parents realise the immense importance of English to their child's future success and development, providing them with controlled and stimulating access to English is becoming a key concern.

For learners of all ages, especially children, developing language skills should be a fun and meaningful activity. If a child can see that the language they have learnt will allow them to do more, understand more and achieve more today, they are much more likely to remember what they have learnt and be encouraged to learn more.

At the British Council we understand how important your child's language development is. This understanding has been the driving force behind this year's Summer School. Running from Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th November, this four-day Summer School offers a programme of activities for children of all ages.

For those aged 7 to 12, there will be a series of stimulating and engaging sessions in which learners will be encouraged to explore the world of storytelling and English literature. Older children, between 13 and 15 will be guided through the fascinating world of multimedia resources; truly twenty-first century English language learning.

Both programmes will run between 10.00 and 13.00, cost Rs3,500 (including all materials) and are open to any child (places are extremely limited, so please register for a place as soon as you can). To register a place please bring your child's ID and course fee to the British Council in Rose Hill between 11.00 - 18.00 Tuesday to Friday and 11.00 - 14.00 Saturday.

For more information please check the teaching centre's website at www.britishcouncil.org/africa-english-teaching-centres.htm or phone us on 403-0200.
