Abuja — The Body of Benchers yesterday started its call of 3,460 candidates to bar this year,just as the Director General of Nigerian Law School , Dr. Tahir Mamman, revealed that the school has commenced implementation by some skill modules such as research, drafting and legal writing,advocacy , interviewing , and dispute resolution.
Out of 3,460 graduates of the school who were called to bar, seven had first class, 177 had second class upper division, 784 had a second class lower division, 2,492 had pass with 210 passing conditionally, while 1,620 failed.
Mamman said each module would integrate knowledge, skills and values such that students will take modules in practical context, historically and with specific learning outcomes. Finally, it was being delivered interactively, with students practically involved in the process.
Also in his address at the openning ceremony of the Call to Bar, Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Elder Simeon Moronfolu Olusola Olakunri (SAN),told the new wigs that they were privileged enough to be members of the legal profession and that there call to bar was coming when the "profession received a very loud ovation when a popular leader, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole was confirmed by the Court of Appeal as the elected Governor of Edo State."
He also reminded the new wigs that it was not because that they were brilliant academically or knowledgeable but it was possible for them to be recognised because of their personal integrity just as he urged them not to let their sponsoring benchers down by involving in demeaning activities.
In addition, he told them to always be ready to serve as officers in temple of justice and to ensure that justice and fairness prevails in their endearvours as lawyers.
