Ghana: Vittese to Offload Yakubu

20 November 2008

Vittese Arnheim will look to offload Ghana midfielder Yakubu Abubakari when the transfer window opens in January.

The former international has been a fringe player for the side and the club says they will now let him go in a bid to cut down on their rising wage bill.

Vittese technical director Mark van Hintum says it is pure waste to keep the likes Yakubu when they are not active.

"It's absolutely not the case that we want to end their contracts. But their salaries are such that it is a pure waste when they don't play," Hintum told Omroep Gelderland.

"We will try to let them go in the transfer window. We will co-operate where we can."

Yakubu represented Ghana at youth level and played for the Black Stars at the 2006 Nations Cup.

But his international career has stalled alongside his club career after his move from Ajax Amsterdam in 2004.
