Leader of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change, PMDC, was said to have ordered the police to arrest any member of his party that attends meetings outside the party headquarters.

Charles Margai told supporters of the PMDC in Kenema that no member of his party could be allowed to hold meetings with any aspirant outside the office of the party.

"I have ordered the police to arrest any member caught holding party meetings outside the party office," he said.

He said every member of the party has the right to contest for positions in the party but stressed that it should be done in the interest of the party.

"We all know that so many people have shown interest in executive positions ahead of the national convention in Makeni. It must be done in the right way," he emphasized.

When contacted, PMDC's national publicity secretary Mohamed Bangura said clearance has been given by the party secretariat for PMDC members to attend meetings outside the party office.

"Any aspirant has the right to hold meetings outside the premises of the party. We as a party will encourage any member to contest for any executive position in the party," he said.

Bangura noted that Charles Margai could not have ordered for the arrest of any member of the party who holds meetings outside the party's offices.
