Angola: Country to Host Gulf of Guinea Presidents Meeting

Luanda — Angola will host the second Summit of heads of State and Government of the countries of the Gulf of Guinea scheduled for November 25 in Luanda.

The information is contained in a note from the Foreign Ministry that reached Angop on Wednesday.

According to the note, the member countries will discuss documents ruling the organisation, lthe budget for 2009, members contributions, ministers reports, the insignia and flag drafts for the Commission and other matters.

Meanwhile, the meeting will be preceded by the 4th session of the Council of ministers of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, set for November 23-24, that will also be preceded by the 4th gathering of experts on November 20-22.

The source adds that the Cabinet Council opening session will be chaired by Angolan Foreign minister, Assunçao dos Anjos, in his capacity as chairman of the organ.

With its Executive Secretariat based in Luanda, the Gulf of Guinea Commission was established in 1999 and groups Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Sao Tomé and Príncipe, Gabon, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Commission is an organ for concert among the Gulf of Guinea countries for cooperation and development, prevention of border-related conflicts, economic and commercial matters and exploration of natural resources.

It is the organisation's task to reinforce cooperation and solidarity among member states, create mutual trust, peace and security required for their harmonious development.
