Nigeria: Induction is Very Important for Hajj - Comerel Boss

20 November 2008

International travel, whether for religious, personal or business reasons, could be challenging if you are not prepared. Disease, illness, crime and injury happen unexpectedly to even the most experienced traveler. Planning for good health before an international trip or pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia is as important as buying tickets or obtaining visa and passport. This is why we at Comerel Travels and Tours decided to go an extra mile to organise a course for intending pilgrims and interested members of the public."

These are words of Alhaji Abubakar Siddeeq Muhammed, Managing Director and CEO of Comerel Travels and Tours Ltd, Abuja, when he was explaining the motive for the three-day Hajj induction course organised by his company last weekend. Held at the prestigious Yar'Adua Centre, Abuja, the well attended event witnessed the presentation of well researched papers by a number of experts on the theme, "Towards An Acceptable Hajj."

In an interview with Leadership, on Tuesday, the Comerel boss said the three-day event was part of his company's corporate social responsibility to the society in general, Islam as well as pilgrims in particular: "we are trying in different ways to make the Hajj exercise better," Muhammed said. For instance, we educate them (intending pilgrims) on when they are to travel, when they are coming back, where they are going, and which country they are going, which hotel are they going to stay in and so on. Such information is essential to having a successful Hajj particularly, one that is acceptable to Allah."

He urged intending pilgrims not to take such things for granted. For instance, medical preparation for international travel or pilgrimage is not just about vaccination it goes beyond that.

It is a whole body of activities that is handled by a field of medicine called travel medicine," he added. "None should take it lightly as even the most experienced traveler can be taken unawares at times if not well prepared.'
