The former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia in the regime of former President Charles Taylor, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott has joined the legal team representing the government of Liberia.
Cllr. Scott who was dressed in a brown skirt-suit was seen smiling after she was announced by prosecuting lawyers as an associate lawyer in the case.
The Maryland County Senator was escorted along with other lawyers including lawyers of the alleged rapist into the judge's chambers, where the entire preliminary examination in the rape case took place.
According to the Trial Judge, Nelson B. Chineh, lawyers representing the state produced the mother and sister of the victim who took the witness stand and testified.
But he refused to disclose the testimonies of the victim's mother and sister who took the witness stand and testified in camera.
In an interview with The Analyst yesterday, the Monrovia City Court judge said prosecution has filed a Motion for Continuous in order to have its third witness testified.
He said prosecution may produce the medical practitioner who according to the prosecution treated the rape victim or add another witness to testify.
Magistrate Chineh then disclosed that the case has been scheduled for November 20th 2008 at the hour of 10am and at the same time warned both lawyers to be present and on time.
In a related development, people believed to be supporters, relatives and friends and even parents of the school that the accused is a teacher were seen jubilating joyfully, singing and dancing.
According to them, the accused was rendered not guilty, quoting an unknown source from the hearing which was in camera.
When the lawyer for the defendant was contacted on the action of the over 75 persons who thronged the court to witness the proceedings, Atty. J. Adolphus Karnuah could not either confirm or deny.
