The first phase of developing the Ndonga Linena agricultural project in the Kavango Region is progressing well.
The project, which has been delayed for the past six years, finally commenced in September this year.
The Ndonga Linena project is located some 130km east of Rundu in the Ndiyona Constituency, and was debushed five years ago and has a water pump station already erected at the site.
It is one of the first projects in the region that was identified by government as part of its Green Scheme projects.
Physical development at the project site was put on hold for the past years because no suitable candidate that would serve as a service provider could be found.
Chief Agriculture Extension Technician for eastern Kavango Alex Endunde informed Nampa yesterday that the digging of holes for irrigation has already been completed, while the construction of houses that would accommodate 21 small-scale farmers who will work on the project has also commenced.
Endunde said a Chinese construction company, Lee Contractor, that was awarded the tender to build the houses, was given 150 days to complete the construction process.
The Ndonga Linena agricultural project will cover an area of about 800 hectares.
There are currently five Green Scheme agricultural projects in the Kavango Region, namely the Shadikongoro, Shitemo, Mashare, Uvhungu Vhungu and Musese projects.
