Cameroon: Assailants Slice Off Man's Penis

Robert Tumasang

20 November 2008

Mpianga Lucien, a 25-year old man, is gasping for life at the Bertoua Provincial Hospital after unknown assailants sliced off his penis. The macabre event took place at Bent village in the Upper Nyong Division of the East Province, Thursday, November 6.

"I went to the farm to harvest some plantains. My friend and I transported the first head load of plantains to the roadside and I left my friend there to sell them while I went back to the farm for more. When I arrived at the farm, some three men emerged from the nearby bush and rushed for me.

They didn't demand for anything. All they did was to thrust their knives into me, slicing off my manhood, from under the navel right down to the penis," Mpianga managed to explain between painful gasps.

His brother, Nchoumba Ethiam, explains that it was a neighbour who heard his painful screams and rushed to the village to announce the news."When we reached the farm where my brother was lying in a pool of his own blood, his intestines were trailing from the stomach and his penis was already sliced off...the testicles though are hanging there," he said.

He said under the circumstance, no one had the presence of mind to find out whether the penis was taken away. The assailants had fled, but according to Mpianga, one of them got a machete wound.

"I do not know those people, they were not our villagers, but I think I can recognise them if they are brought in here," Mpianga says.He further said the three men all wore "gandouras", and had some line marks on their faces.

Marie Chantal Kené, a nurse at the Bertoua Provincial Hospital, who has been taking care of Mpianga, says the only thing left is to adapt an artificial, urinary track to help Mpianga urinate.

"All other penile functions such as sex are ruled out," she said.Just meters away from his hospital bed was another victim of aggression, Noah Jean Ambanga.Elements of the Mobile Police Intervention Unit, ESSIR, say they found Ambanga at 3 am, lying in a pool of blood, with his intestines puffing out from two deep wounds inflicted on his stomach, at Nkolbikon, a quarter in Bertoua, November 4.

According to the victim, he was returning home after a day's job when a group of young men all brandishing knives approached him and started asking for money."I told them I didn't have money on me", he said.

Apparently disappointed they couldn't get anything from their prey except his cell phone, the hoodlums pounced on him and thrust their sharp-pointed knives into his stomach and chest.
