One of the contestants representing Njala University in this year's Miss University beauty pageant Wednesday said honour and dignity were her reasons for contesting.

The twenty-year-old Edna Wai of the faculty of information and technology said she was ready to win the competition as she was endowed with natural beauty.

"My reason for participating in this year's beauty pageantry is to exhibit my beauty so that it will bring honour, respect and dignity not only to my family but my institution.

This is my first beauty competition. I hardly go to night clubs neither social gatherings but I am sure by God's willing I will make it."

Wai said she was moved by some of her colleagues from other universities who have vowed to compete against her. But she believes that with her level of exposure and education she would emerge victorious.

She said she would use her beauty for charity, adding that she started humanitarian work at a younger age.

"I used to collect money from friends and other humanitarian organizations to take care of vulnerable children," she said, adding that she was ready to defeat her competitors in the upcoming competition.
