Makurdi — Benue State governor Mr. Gabriel Suswam has signed the bill for the protection of the rights of the child as well as the bill for the establishment, composition, financing and the functions of the state's Muslim welfare board into law.Performing the ceremony the governor said that the Child Right law was vital to guaranteeing the future of children in the state advising parents and all indigenes of the state to acquaint themselves with its provisions to guard against violating its provisions.
He stressed that the law for the Muslim welfare board was an amendment sent to the House saying that its passage has provided legal framework for tenure as well as the financing of the body which was before now not properly defined.
Mr. Suswam noted with glee what he described as salient achievements of the State's Assembly observing that posterity will not forget their contributions to the well being of Benue people.
Remarking earlier, the Speaker of the State Assembly who presented the bills for the governor's assent noted that the two bills were of great importance to the lives of Benue people and hence deserved maximum attention from the Assembly members.
He opined that the passage of the Child Right Bill was of particular interest to government and many international agencies hoping that the law will enhance maximum development of children in the state.
