Eritrea: Ministry Compiles Reference Book Regarding the Coastline

20 November 2008

Asmara — The Ministry of Fisheries has compiled a reference book regarding the Eritrean coastline and activities carried out in the years 2006 to 2007.

The book highlights the overall structure of marine and fishery resources along the coastline, the demography in the area, policies and legal matters in connection with the coastline, infrastructure facilities and tourism potentials.

The book indicates that no development has been witnessed in the past along the Eritrean coastline due to neglect in the days of colonial rule. In contrast however, encouraging activities have been carried out since the achievement of independence to effectively harness the virgin coastline and marine resource for the benefit of the people, it elaborated.

The Ministry expressed conviction that the reference material would be useful in formulating effective policy on harnessing such resources.
