After the signing of the P15 million be Mobile sponsorship deal, more money is coming to the Premier League courtesy of a separate broadcasting rights deal that will give each of the 16 clubs at least P50,000 per month. This will be the first pay-out for Premier League clubs.
Premier League officials remain tight lipped about the television rights deal but it is understood that it is a multi-million-pula package. The broadcaster, possibly Btv has agreed to pay up front. The Premier League resumes on November 29 after a break caused by sponsorship negotiations.
The P50,000-plus per month is meant to ease the financial burden of the local clubs which struggle to pay players' allowances, transport and other costs.
Premier League Committee (PLC) administrative secretary, Setete Phuthego said yesterday the grants for clubs will not come from the P15 million deal negotiated with new sponsors be Mobile. "As it has been announced, 80 percent of the be Mobile funs will go towards prizes. Clubs' grant is a separate deal from the television rights deal we struck recently," Phuthego explained.
He said the TV station that has been granted the broadcasting rights is local. "It is a local company. For sure when we resume the league on November 29, we will have the television sponsor on board, and by the time we break for Christmas, the clubs will have received their grants. We are confident of that," Phuthego said. "We will be making the announcement and that is when details will come out," he explained.
