Kampala — ZAIN and award winning actor Forest Whitaker have donated a $30,000(about sh58m) science block and a borehole to Hope North School and Vocational Centre.

The school, located in Kitwanga, Kibanda sub-county in Masindi district, caters for former LRA child soldiers and other children affected by war.

It received books and clothes among other items donated under Zain's 'Build Our Nation Education Campaign.'

The borehole was commissioned last Friday.

Whitaker starred as Idi Amin in the movie titled "Last King of Scotland." The movie focuses on the life of the former Ugandan president.

Whitaker had pledged the items when he visited the country last year.

Zain hosted the premiere of Whitaker's film and sponsored his visit to the school, whose children have been affected by two decades of war.

Fred Masadde, Zain's external affairs manager, said the project was part of their community programme.

"Zain is proud to be part of this initiative that contributes to the rehabilitation of northern Uganda. The water project will serve the school and the entire Kitwanga community, while the books will improve the quality of education and transform the lives of the students."

Hope North School and Vocational Centre has been home to refugees, orphans and former child soldiers who were affected by the war in the north.

It comprises a secondary school and vocational training centre.
