Alberta — The Angolan ambassador to Canada, Miguel N'zau Puna, said Wednesday in Edmonton, capital of Alberta province, his government is committed to diversifying the economic sector, particularly in agriculture, education and health, since 2002 when the country achieved peace.
The diplomat said so during a meeting with the director for Europe, Middle East and Africa of the Ministry of International and Inter-government Affairs of Alberta, Doug Cameron.
Miguel N'zau Puna who is paying an official visit to Edmonton, told the Canadian officials that the Angolan Government expects, in the coming four-year term, the construction of one million houses, in the light of the process of rehabilitation of the cities.
The Government is also engaged in the national reconstruction, in the creation of new jobs and construction of new road networks to improve the circulation of people and goods, living standards, stressed the Angolan ambassador who also spoke of the country's macro-economic stability.
The diplomat also said that the Angolan embassy is working toward the opening of a Chamber of Commerce between Angola and Canada, with a view to encouraging the Canadian businesspeople to find business partners and invest in Angola.
In his turn, Doug Cameroun said that between 2003 and 2007, Alberta exported to Angola a business volume estimated at USD 5 million.
According to him, Alberta government is interested to increase the level of business between Angolan oil firm of Sonangol and Alberta's Oil & Gas. To this end, some Sonangol officials have been invited to attend, in Calgary, a Fair dubbed "2008 Global Petroleum".
Over the last fife years, Canadian export to Angola increased by more than USD 80 million, at the same time that Angola has become one of the main exporters of crude oil to Canada.
On the same day, ambassador Miguel N'Zau Puna was received by the governor, Norman Kwong province, by the Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Ken Kowalski, and by the minister of the Communities and Culture, Lindsay Blackett.
