Angola: Country Has Potential to Produce Bio-Fuels - Minister

São Paulobrazil, — Angola has natural conditions and potential to stand as a bio-fuels producer in a sustainable way, said Thursday in São Paulo, Brazil, the Angolan Oil minister, José Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos, while addressing the opening session of International Conference on Bio-fuels.

According to the Angolan minister, the country possesses important potential in water resources, with the existence of 47 hydrographical basins, a reserve of potential arable lands and holds a human capital that can be useful for the activity of the field.

On advantages, the minister Botelho de Vasconcelhos mentioned that agro-energy production in Angola, as a renewable and alternative source to petroleum, may translate into benefits of social, economic, energetic and environmental nature.

Among the benefits mentioned as another advantages in the production of bio-fuel in Angola, the increase of jobs in rural areas, the introduction of alternative and renewable electricity sources, the reduction of gases issuing damaging the atmosphere and the environment, the export of bio-energy that contribute to the increase of national income and of energetic availability in rural areas.

The high level session of the International Conference on Bio-fuels, expected to close Friday, was opened Thursday by the Brazilian Foreign minister, Celso Amorim.
