Luanda — The Angolan Environment minister, Fátima Jardim, Thursday in Luanda mentioned, as her Ministry's priority for 2009, the increase of education and awareness with view to making 15 percent of the population aware of environmental issues in the country.
Fátima Jardim announced this when presenting the programme of activities of her ministry the light of the National Plan and State General Budget (OGE) to the MPs of the fourth Commission of the National Assembly (Parliament) that deals with matters related to State Administration and local power.
To this end, she said, her sector has an agenda of implementing education and environmental awareness programme, aimed, mainly, at instilling in citizens a new culture related to the environment issues.
According to the minister, the construction of Institutes of Environment Management and Biodiversity and Conservation, as well as the start of implementation of national environment policies, are among her sector's priorities.
The National Plan and the budget for the sector benefits from a global amount of Akz 1.2 billion (local currency) to cover various projects.
Meanwhile, the implementation of the strategy and national programme of biodiversity will also target programme of technology and environment education, the strategic lines for planning and the environmental arrangement, national system of control of environmental indicators, the strategy and national programme of residual management, the implementation of national programme on climate changes and the management of national fund of environment.
The funds allocated to the Ministries of Environment, Urbanisation and Housing, Public Administration and Social Security, Territory Administration and provincial governors, will be discussed for voting on Friday.
