Uganda: MP Masiko to Answer Fraud Charges

Kampala — RUKUNGIRI Woman MP Winfred Masiko is expected at the Buganda Road Court today to answer charges of misappropriation of funds.

Masiko is the executive director of the Gender Development Association.

The association received over sh130m for Global Fund activities.

On October 29, two former employees of the association were also charged with various offences that included embezzlement and falsification of accounts.

They are Perez Tumwine Rwabushaija, the project coordinator and Boaz Tumuhimbise, the accountant.

Magistrate Francis Kobusheshe had issued two criminal summons for the MP through the Office of the Speaker of Parliament.

Recently, the director for economic monitoring in the President's Office, Teddy Ssezi Cheeye, was charged for mismanagement of the Global Fund money. He is out on bail awaiting trial by the recently constituted Anti-corruption Division.
