Kampala — THE Kapchorwa Resident District Commissioner, Jane Frances Kuka, on Monday said the Government is using the peace resolution mechanism to resolve the land conflict in the Mt. Elgon Forest Park.
Kuka, meeting a delegation of Kenyan civil society organisation members at Noahs Ark Hotel in Kapchorwa, criticised the violent ways of the Sabaot Defence Forces in western Kenya in demanding for land rights from the Kenyan government.
"The youth here were bitter and threatened that they will fight like the Sabaot of Kenya but I told them they would die.
"The Government will now resettle them permanently. We do not want violence," Kuka, also the chairperson of the district security committee said.
The Kenyan delegation, led by Lily Murei of the Kenyan Land Alliance, is on a one-week working tour. The delegation also met with the district chairman Nelson Chelimo.
According to Kuka, the cattle rustling spearheaded by the Kenyan Pokot and the Karimojong was being contained by the Ugandan army.
Murei hailed Uganda's policy on land ownership and dispute resolution.
She said her government was in the process of implementing land reforms.
