Luanda — The European Commission and Angolan authorities Thursday in Luanda signed a financial accord for an assistance to the country's construction and reconstruction tasks and socio-economic and political development.
The signing of the "Strategy for the country and the National Indicative Programme for 200-2013 period" comprises the granting of funds to Angola in two components.
The first estimated at 214 million Euros, about Akz 21 billion, (corresponding to USD 279 million).
The second component corresponds to a fund of 13.9 million Euros (about Akz 1.3 trillion and Usd 18.12 million), to help face unexpected situations and assist with emergencies.
After the signing, the head of the European Commission Angola office, João Gabriel Ferreira, told reporters that the cooperation accord covers priority sectors like governance, economic and institutional growth, human development, rural development, agriculture and food security.
He explained that the cooperation also covers non-focal sectors as the private, civil society, regional cooperation, and matters related to environment.
Signing for Angola, the deputy Planning minister, Pedro Luís da Fonseca, said the accord will contribute to speed up the country's development process and improve the funding of priority areas like those of governance and institutional reform, with a view to improved services and payment of workers salaries.
The new cooperation strategy signed between the European Commission and Angola represents a 20 percent increase as compared with the amount granted for the 2002-2007 period, estimated at 177 million Euros, also non-refundable.
