Nigeria: Babalola Assures Development of FCT

21 November 2008

The Supervising Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Remi Babalola, said his tenure at the FCT would be marked by strict adherence to the philosophy of the founding fathers of the capital city.

He said he would do all within his ability and the rule of law to address the fundamental issues of development of the city, to ensure that it remains the pride of Africa and the centre of world excellence.

Speaking through the chief press secretary, Sule Mohammed Hazat, Babalola stated that there was no going back on the restoration of the Abuja master plan, which was required to move the city forward.

According to him, issues of demolition of illegal structures, clearance of destitute and refuse, ban on okada, provision of basic amenities and security, among others, will remain the priority of his administration.

The minister called on residents to show deep interest in the development of the city by abiding by the tenets and regulations of city laws.

Babalola, who took over in acting capacity from the former FCT minister, Dr. Aliyu Umar Modibbo, last month, enjoined all agencies and parastatals of the FCTA to do their best by meeting the needs of the people and making things work.

He cautioned residents against erecting illegal settlements and that his administration would work to strengthen the rule of law and due process.

He said his vision for the FCT was to make it the most secured beautiful world city that would attract foreign investments and improve the living standard of the people.
