Zimbabwe: Mbuya Madhuve Makes Comeback

21 November 2008

Harare — MBIRA player Mbuya Madhuve - real name Edna Chizema - makes a comeback to showbiz after a long lull with a family show at Colour Purple on Sunday.

The mbira princess, who has been inactive for many months since her release from prison early this year, shares the stage with Allan Chimbetu, Leonard Zhakata, Venus Queens and Roderick Chomudhara. Chomudhara cut his musical teeth in the Tembo Brothers which was led by the late fiery composer, dancer and guitarist John Chibadura.

The show is remarkable in many ways in that it is set to reunite Mbuya Madhuve with her fans and with fellow musicians.

Show promoter Karen Madhake urged fans to turn up in their numbers for this rare family show.

"As Venus Promotions, we feel proud being associated with Mbuya Madhuve. She is not only talented but she has also been going through tough times. I, therefore, urge fans to support her," she said.
