ActionAid Inter-national has ranked the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the highest with number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
Its project manager in charge of the FCT, Dr. Zakari Tanko stated this at the one-year anniversary and graduation ceremony of Vantaged Teens Centre, Bwari, a non-governmental organisation established with the sole aim of impacting on the less privilege.
Dr. Tanko disclosed that a recent research revealed that FCT was on top of the list of states with about 6.3 percent, with women and children mostly affected.
"For us to ensure that these numbers are reduced drastically, we need financial support to develop an action plan for good service delivery. This action plan would include service delivery, monitoring and evaluation centers.
"As a result of this, we are going to be partnering with some important organisations like Vantage", he stated
Speaking earlier, the founder of Vantaged Teens Centre, Mrs. Rhoda Bassi, said the centre was established in order to train young men and women to make a difference in the society. "One need not to be rich before helping others. If you help in your own little way, it would not only endear people close to you, but it would also challenge others to do the same.
"We have been receiving support from rotary club especially the Rotary Club of Asokoro, who has accepted to help us impact positively on the lives of the less privilege. We are also going to support the widows to enable them have a new beginning," Rhoda assured
She commended the management of the FCT National Directorate of Employment (NDE) for their support. She said the NDE under the leadership of Hajiya Hadiza Yerima Bulama, has been of great assistance to the organisation.
