For the first ever time, former football stars in Akwa Ibom State under the platform of All Stars will converge on Uyo next month for a championship in honour of sports-loving governor of the state, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
"It's now official, we're planning a football fiesta from December 11-14 and it will feature All Stars from the thirty-one local government areas of Akwa Ibom,"disclosed Dr Chris Ekong, the President of the Uyo All Stars in a press statement in Uyo, Wednesday.
Dr Ekong said the championship was primarily aimed at spearheading a statewide move towards galvanising support for Governor Akpabio to gun for a second term "as a reward for his huge investment in youth and sports development".
Dr Ekong, a former sports commissioner who singlehandedly propelled Uyo Township Stadium renovation during his tenure continued:
"It promises to be three days of the best of football under a carnival atmosphere. His Excellency deserves all the plaudits for an outstanding service he has rendered to Akwa Ibom people and it will be befitting if he gets another term to consolidate. Sports will be the better for it".
