One person died, while 15 other members of the Delta State contingents to the Abuja Carnival sustained various degrees of injuries on Wednesday, in an accident that occurred at Yangoji Village, along the Abuja-Lokoja Highway.

The accident occurred at about 11. 30 pm and involved a Toyota Bus with registration number DT 20A25, that belongs to the Delta State Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

An eyewitness told our reporter that the driver of the bus conveying 17 members of the Delta State traditional troupe, lost control and crashed after its tyre burst.

The Kwali Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Tukur D. Sifawa, while confirming the accident also attributed its cause to a tyre that burst.

He said the driver was on top speed when one of the bus front tyres burst and in the process, the vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ditch by the roadside.
