Owerri — Members of the Imo State House of Assembly have disassociated themselves from the alleged plot by Mr Independence Ogulewe representing Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency in Imo State to destabilize the House of Representatives and unseat the Speaker, Dimeji Bankole.
Adopting a motion sponso-red by Samuel Anyanwu repre-senting Ikeduru state consti-tuency at the floor of the House yesterday and co-sponsored by other members, the House con-demned such action .
The House presided over by the Speaker, Goodluck Opia, ur-ged the leadership of the House of Representatives to regard the action of the lawmaker as a per-sonal agenda which lacks the support of the people of Imo state. They advised the leader-ship of the House to remain fo-cused in making laws that would better the lots of Nigerians.
The chief sponsor of the mo-tion, Samuel Anyanwu alleged that with a recorded evidence indicated that a pro-democracy activist, Mallam Umar Farouk was recruited by a team of dis-enchanted members led by Ogu-lewe to destabilize the House.
According to him, all meet-ings relating to the planned ac-tion against the Speaker were facilitated and financed by Ogulewe, adding that the people of Imo take exception to that act.
Anyanwu noted that Ogu-lewe's present and past acts of legislative rascality and thuggry had not only brought embarras-sment to the people and Govern-ment of Imo, but also denied Imo people meaningful social ameni-ties, adding that Imo people have lost confidence in him.
He pointed out that the same federal lawmaker participated in the removal of the former Spea-ker of House of Representati-ves, Mrs. Patricia Ette during the third term saga that rocked the House.
Celestine Ngaobiwu represen-ting Obowo State Constituency condemned how a lawmaker sent by his constituency to represent them should turn to be an agent of embarrassment to his people.
The Deputy Speaker Surv. Jonas Okeke in his argument frowned at the action of Ogulewe, stating that the House of Assem-bly was ashamed to associate with him because he portrayed the Igbo race, especially Imo people negatively.
