Mogadishu — Somali government troops have killed at least eleven insurgents in the capital Mogadishu security officials/witnesses said on Friday.
Gunmen fired on a group of Somali police forces were guarding the house of Wadajir district commissioner Ahmed Dai were heavy fighting happened, said a resident man who declined to give his name.
Four of them were killed and the others were wounded, he said, adding the attack took place near the commissioners house.
Islamist forces are carrying out a series of military assaults targeting the government and the allied Ethiopian troops
The residents reported that most of the insurgents killings took place when counter attack have been accomplished by other government soldiers.
The government said that theyve killed 17 fighters but no independent confirmations were available.
Violence in Somalia is at a four-year low but insurgents have still managed to carry out attacks in the country despite sweeping military operations by security forces but the insurgents gained large towns from the government troops.
