Nigeria: Kada Games - Facilities Will Be Ready in January - KDSG

The Kaduna State Government yesterday assured that all ongoing projects for the February 2009 National Sports Festival to be held in Ka-duna will be ready in January ahead of the commencement of the festival in February.

Giving the assurance during a courtesy call on the Supervi-sing Minister of Sports, Dr. Has-san Bako Zaku in Abuja, Kadu-na State Deputy Governor, Pat-rick Yakowa, who doubles as the Local Organising Committee Chairman said the facilities will be completed o time for test running before the start of the games in February.

He said since the festival was shifted to February next year, the state government has raised the tempo of its preparations for the games, particularly in the area of constriction of facilities to enhance early completion and improved standard.

Yakowa, who also assured of adequate and high standard accommodation facilities during the festival, said the Kaduna State Government is determined and committed to hosting the best ever organised sports festival in history.

"We are putting in place a state of the arts facilities that will make KADA 2009 Games the best ever in the history of the National Sports Festival, and I want to assure the National Sports Commission and all Nigerians that the facilities will be ready a month earlier for test running before the games in February.

"There is total commitment from the Kaduna State Government for the hosting of the festival, and since the decision to shift the games to February next year, Governor Namadi Sambo has been mee-ting with contractors handling various projects for the festival and I want to assure you that all the facilities needed for the festival will be ready on time", Yakowa stated.

He also appealed for support and guidance from the National Sports Commission to enable the state stage the best National Sports Festival next February.

In his reply, Supervising Minister of Sports, Dr. Hassan Bako Zaku thanked the state government for assurances that facilities for the festival will be ready in January.

Dr. Zaku also assured that the commission would strive to assist the state within its powers to enhance the success of the 16th National Sports Festival.

He also urged states with sporting facilities to ensure that they were maintained for future sporting competitions.
